Prism for Students

Your privacy matters. Here's how Prism keeps you safe without spying on you.

The Locked Box Analogy

Imagine you have a list of "banned words" written on a piece of paper in your desk.

You check each word yourself before you say it. Your teacher never hears what you were going to say—you just don't say the banned words.

That's exactly what happens on your device. The filter rules live on YOUR phone, and YOUR phone checks them. We never get the list of sites you visit.

But what about the server?

Sometimes your phone needs to ask our server: "Is this URL okay?"

Here's the cool part:

  1. 1.Your phone ENCRYPTS the question
  2. 2.Apple's relay removes your IP address
  3. 3.Our server answers the encrypted question
  4. 4.It CANNOT decrypt it to see what you asked
  5. 5.Your phone decrypts the answer

It's like asking a question in a locked box, and getting an answer back in the same locked box. The server never opens the box.

What We Can and Cannot See

We Collect

  • Category counts (e.g., "Social Media: 5 blocks")
  • Time of day (e.g., "Blocked at 2 PM")
  • How well the filter works (accuracy metrics)

We DON'T Collect

  • Which websites you visited
  • Your browsing history
  • Your name, email, or identity
  • Your location
  • Anything that identifies you personally

Why Should You Trust Us?

You shouldn't just trust us.

You should trust the MATH.

This isn't "We promise not to look."

This is "It's mathematically impossible for us to look, even if we wanted to."

Cryptographers call this "zero-knowledge architecture."We literally have zero knowledge of your browsing.

You Deserve Both

Safety AND privacy. Not one or the other. Prism gives you both.

Protected from harm. Free from surveillance.
